THE LOCAL BLOOM STORY
I’ve always loved getting my hands dirty in the garden. I could spend hours upon hours (until it was dark out) perfecting and weeding my gardens. But, that’s not exactly where my floral journey began… it started two years ago when I was laid off from my full time job as a photoshoot producer for a retail company (at that time, my husband and I lived in Montreal). With these new lemons we were dealt, my husband Patrick and I chose to make lemonade by deciding to sell our house and move closer to my family. One day I was getting flowers for an open house and had a sort of epiphany – I walked out of that florist shop with the idea to open my very own shop.
After our house sold in January 2017, the ball got rolling as we moved to Cobourg in March. Wrote a business plan, applied for a grant, chose the location for the shop, got turned down for the grant, jumped headfirst anyways and opened the shop on July 27th.The first two years have been amazing! The Cobourg community has really made me (and the shop) feel welcome. I have the most amazing customers and some of them have even become great friends. My family has been wonderfully supportive and continually offer their help. And boy, have I learned… a lot!!
